Which? verdict

Lastminute.com’s customer scores land them in the bottom half of the table in all but one relevant categories. It did better in our ski holidays survey, but is not a Which? Recommended Provider because it lacks certain customer services that we think are important for your experience. Even for a budget trip, there are better holiday providers.

What’s a Lastminute.com/Booking.com holiday like?

Lastminute.com is an online travel agent that prides itself on being a cheap and hassle-free option. Holidaymakers in our beach/ resorts holiday survey didn’t agree: it placed in the bottom half in all tables it featured in - finishing second-last on both city breaks and tailor-made holidays. One reader described their experience with Lastminute as ‘terrible’.

Package holidays purchased at Booking.com are fulfilled by Lastminute.com.

Customers reported that the holiday didn’t always live up to expectations. Lastminute earned only two stars for the description matching reality in our beach/resort, all-inclusive, tailor-made and family holiday categories. One disgruntled customer told us: ‘The accommodation was not as per the website, and when we contacted them they wouldn’t help to change rooms.’

It is cheap. In our survey of 30 beach/resort holiday providers, only two rival companies could beat Lastminute’s £100pp per night average for short-haul holidays. However, that doesn’t translate to customer satisfaction, and crucially it still only received two stars for value for money in three different holiday categories.

In our separate ski provider survey,  holidaymakers were more satisfied with their experience with lastminute.com. However, the company does not offer any ski extras that holidaymakers might find useful from their provider, such as lift passes, in-resort reps or snow guarantees. Find out more in our guide to the best ski providers.

Should I book a holiday with Lastminute.com/Booking.com?

Probably not. It may be cheap, but with a two-star rating for value for money, and a raft of other poor ratings in one of our surveys, it’s best avoided. For an affordable holiday with a far better company, try Which? Recommended Provider Jet2holidays, or for ski holidays, go with Inghams.
