Who is HF Holidays?
HF Holidays is all about activities – from learning to cook in Sicily and walking on Table Mountain in South Africa to taking bridge classes in Shropshire. But the travel company’s bread and butter is guided walking holidays throughout the UK, where it owns 15 country houses, including a mansion on the banks of Derwentwater, in the Lake District.

For escorted tours, in an online survey in August/September 2024, we asked 12,119 Which? Connect panel members and members of the public to complete about 19,958 holidays from the past two years.

What's HF Holidays like?
The Holiday Fellowship, as it was originally known, started out in 1913 with the aim of improving the lives of factory workers by introducing them to the great outdoors. More than a century later, it is still Britain’s only walking holiday co-operative, which means that it’s owned by its members.
It is a force for good, supporting sustainable travel and community initiatives. It’s also the very best escorted tour operator in our survey and impressed clients with the detailed itineraries and unwavering high level of service they received on their adventure/activity holidays.
For those looking for something a little different, HF also offers special-interest holidays – suitable for painters, bridge lovers and musicians – with plenty of sightseeing and wildlife watching thrown in. Even though it offers trips in more than 40 countries, most of its customers in our survey had stayed in the UK.
Whichever holiday you chose, you heaped praise on its outstanding customer service. One customer told us: ‘HF stands out in terms of organisation, accommodation, itinerary, choice of walks and the quality of the guides.’
HF Holidays’ refund, cancellation and surcharge policy
HF Holidays is a Which? Recommended Provider for adventure/activity holidays and escorted tours, which means that, as well as being one of the most highly rated holiday firms in both surveys, it guarantees to offer a full refund, or free changes, if the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) changes its advice about your destination.
It has also promised that, in 2026, it won’t apply any additional surcharges to holidays that have already been booked.
