Who is HF Holidays?
Britain’s only walking co-operative, HF Holidays is all about activities – from learning to cook in Sicily and walking on Table Mountain in South Africa to taking bridge classes in Shropshire. But the travel company’s bread and butter is guided walking holidays throughout the UK, where it owns 15 country houses, including a mansion on the banks of Derwentwater, in the Lake District.

What's HF Holidays like?
The Holiday Fellowship, as it was originally known, started out in 1913 with the aim of improving the lives of factory workers by introducing them to the great outdoors. More than a century later, it is still Britain’s only walking holiday co-operative – and still a force for good, supporting sustainable travel and community initiatives. It’s also the very best escorted tour operator in our survey.
For those looking for something a little different, there are special-interest holidays – suitable for painters, bridge lovers and musicians – with plenty of sightseeing and wildlife watching thrown in. Even though it offers trips in more than 40 countries, most of its customers in our survey had stayed in the UK.
You heaped praise on its 260+ holidays, available in the UK and worldwide, and its outstanding customer service. One customer told us: ‘HF stands out in terms of organisation, accommodation, itinerary, choice of walks and the quality of the guides.’
HF Holidays’ refund, cancellation and surcharge policy
HF Holidays is a Which? Recommended Provider, which means that, as well as being one of the most highly rated holiday firms in our survey, it guarantees to offer a full refund, or free changes, if the Foreign Office (FCDO) changes its advice about your destination.
It has also promised that in 2025, it won’t apply any additional surcharges to holidays that have already been booked.
