Who is Expedia?

Expedia is a well-known online booking site that allows you to take a self-assembly approach to planning your package holiday. Its website offers thousands of flights and hotels to every possible destination.

Which? verdict

Expedia is comparatively cheap and the amount of choice it provides is attractive, but its mid-table customer scores show there are better alternatives available in every holiday category – especially for your next summer beach holiday, where it got just two stars for accommodation.

What’s an Expedia holiday like?

Online travel agent Expedia allows you to mix and match, so you can choose between different hotels, self-catering options, flights and car hire to get a combination that suits you. Readers praised its ‘user-friendly website’.

Unfortunately, Expedia was firmly in the bottom half of three of the five tables it featured in. In the beach/resort holiday category, it received a disappointing two-star rating for accommodation. Some customers reported that they didn’t get the room they’d anticipated, or the quality of the room didn’t meet their expectations.

Nobody raved about Expedia's customer service or value for money either, where it was awarded three stars in our beach/resort holidays table.

Expedia’s best customer score was for its all-inclusive holidays, with 79% customer score and impressive four-star ratings for customer service, organisation, transport to and from the destination and accommodation. But even here, its ninth-place ranking means there are plenty of better options.

Should I book a holiday with Expedia?

No. Expedia received middling results across our tables. For a similar price, we’d recommend you book with Jet2Holidays, a Which? Recommended Provider for beach/resort holidays, city breaks and family or solo holidays.
