Which? verdict

With its excellent 83% score, Which? Recommended Provider status, and gushing comments from customers, Intrepid is an excellent option for your next escorted tour, including family trips, walking and rail holidays, and can take you to some of the least explored parts of the world. However, if you are specifically looking for adventure or multi-activity holidays, there are higher-rated providers.

What’s an Intrepid holiday like?

Small group travel expert Intrepid aims to create sustainable and immersive experiences for 12-14 people per trip, using local guides to take you away from the beaten track.

True to its name, its destination list includes Antarctica, Kyrgyzstan, Timor-Leste, and activities range from jungle trekking to rafting and cycling. But it also offers rail holidays, cruises, wildlife holidays and other themed trips. And travellers can choose from a range of styles from basic to premium, depending on preferences and budget.

You’ll need a reasonable level of fitness for most tours, but that doesn’t mean you’ll sacrifice safety or comfort. One survey respondent told us the ‘quality of accommodation was way above our expectations’.

Customers raved about the ‘perfectly timed transfers’, ‘carefully-curated itineraries’ and knowledgeable guides. As one put it: ‘The tour suited us perfectly – a good mix of destinations, sightseeing, experiences – cycle tour, boat trips, etc – coupled with a guide who was second to none.’

Others loved the company ethos. ‘The emphasis on sustainable tourism and community involvement made for a meaningful and responsible travel experience,’ one traveller told us.

But when we asked specifically in a separate survey about adventure/activity holidays, Intrepid scored an average three stars for value for money, with other adventure specialists, like Exodus, receiving a higher customer score.

Intrepid’s refund, cancellation and surcharge policy

Intrepid is a Which? Recommended Provider (WRP), which means that, as well as being one of the most highly rated holiday firms in our survey, it has also guaranteed to offer a full refund or free changes if the Foreign Office (FCDO) changes its advice about your destination.

It has also promised that in 2026, it won’t apply any additional surcharges to holidays that have already been booked.

Should I book a holiday with Intrepid?

Yes. If you’re looking for an off-the beaten track small-group tour, Intrepid is an excellent option.
