'What you need to know about Holidaysafe's policies'

Dean Sobers, Which? travel insurance expert, says:

I've been analysing Holidaysafe's extensive range of policies for a decade.

If you're a Which? member, you can log in (or if not, sign up) to read my explanation of its strengths and weaknesses.

Is Holidaysafe good if you have a medical condition?

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you'll need to declare it when you buy your cover, which may result in a higher premium.

The medical screening process is overseen by a company called Protectif.

Holidaysafe isn't a specialist provider for customers with pre-existing medical conditions, but this doesn't necessarily mean it won't be able to cover your medical condition at a reasonable price.

However, if you're struggling to obtain cover, check our guide to travel insurance if you have a medical condition.

How good is Holidaysafe at handling claims?

Holidaysafe's claims are handled by a firm called Collinson Claims - which is connected to the underwriter (Collinson Insurance).

Holidaysafe's underwriter, Collinson, is a trading name of Astrenska.

  • According to the latest data from the Financial Conduct Authority, Astrenska paid out 90-95% of claims made on annual European policies in 2024 – better than the market average of 86.3%
  • It paid 90-95% of claims on worldwide policies, above the market average of 84.5%
  • It accepted 85-90% of single-trip claims, above the average of 80%.

Holidaysafe's travel insurance: how can I claim?

For medical emergencies abroad, call +44 (0)333 005 1084.

To make other types of claim, call 0333 005 1105. You can also start a claim online

Insurers will usually expect you to try recouping lost costs (such as deposits) elsewhere before claiming with them – for example, checking with the travel provider if you're entitled to a refund or can move a cancelled trip. However, you can still call the insurer to let it know if there's a chance you'll need to claim.

You'll need to provide your policy number when you call.
