Is Co-op Insurance good if you have a medical condition?

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, the Co-op may cover this on your travel insurance, but you'll need to declare it when you buy the policy.

The Co-op works with a medical screening company called Verisk to ask customers about their medical conditions.

It isn't a specialist provider for customers with pre-existing medical conditions, but this doesn't necessarily mean it won't be able to cover your medical condition at a reasonable price.

However, if you are struggling to obtain cover, check our guide on travel insurance if you have a medical condition.

How good is Co-op Insurance at handling claims?

The latest published data from the Financial Conduct Authority shows that All Clear (which provides Co-op Insurance) paid 90-95% of claims made on annual worldwide and annual European policies, and 85-90% of claims made on single-trip policies in 2023.

These were higher than the industry average acceptance rates of 82.20%, 78.90% and 80.40%, respectively.

Co-op Insurance travel insurance: how can I claim?

For medical emergencies abroad, call +44 (0)203 467 4125.

For other claims, the number to call depends on your policy.

  • If your policy number begins with IGC, to make a claim call 01702 427 229. You can also claim online
  • If your policy number begins with CMM, call 01420 579028. You can also claim online

Insurers will usually expect you to try recouping lost costs (such as deposits) elsewhere before claiming with them – for example checking with the travel provider if you're entitled to a refund or can move a cancelled trip. However, you can still call the insurer to let them know if there's a chance you will need to claim.
