With over a century in the car rental industry, German company Sixt has expanded to more than 100 countries and 2,200 locations worldwide.
Which? verdict
Considering it is one of the more expensive providers in our survey, Sixt’s poor customer service rating is disappointing.

What’s Sixt like?
With over 100 years of car rental experience, you’d think Sixt would have learned the value of good customer service by now. Sadly, its ratings didn't show that – it scored a measly two out of five stars.
A common complaint was length of queues and ‘staff shortages’ leading to extended delays. One customer told us it ‘ruined our weekend plans’.
Multiple customers also told us they felt under pressure to purchase Sixt’s own additional insurance, even if they had already purchased cover. One customer said they were repeatedly told they would be ‘left with huge bills’ in the event of an accident.
At an average of £56 per day, Sixt was the joint most expensive provider in our survey (alongside Enterprise).
It wasn’t all bad, though. A five-star score for the age, condition and mileage of the cars suggests that its fleet is in good shape.
Should I book with Sixt?
No. It's expensive, and its customer service is poor. Alamo and Enterprise are better alternatives for global car hire.
