What’s Centauro like?
Independent brand Centauro received a four-star value-for-money rating (out of a possible five stars) and a good customer score of 74%.
Customers were happy with the condition of its vehicles, again giving this category four stars – Centauro renews its fleet every seven months – and they also thought the description of the service matched the reality. Customer service was also rated four stars, with customers describing Centauro as ‘professional and efficient’ and ‘attentive and helpful’.
If you book directly with Centauro, you're only offered its premium zero-excess product, which means you don’t need to worry about insurance upselling, or any dents or scratches. You also don't need to leave a deposit.
However, several readers told us that they saved money by booking a Centauro car via Which? Recommended Provider Zest Car Rental. The broker has a long-standing relationship with Centauro and offers its standard product (with an excess). If you do this, you’ll need to make sure you have a good Excess Reimbursement Insurance policy, and bear in mind that some customers told us they faced pressure from Centauro to purchase its own insurance.
The other complaint about Centauro was the collection speed, which was rated an average three stars. If you book with Centauro at an airport, be aware that its offices are usually a shuttle bus away from the terminal – which can be a hassle.
