Hammonds fitted wardrobes review

As part of our fitted bedroom furniture survey, we asked more than 2,500 fitted wardrobe customers to rate their furniture. 

We asked them about the quality and value for money of their wardrobes, as well as any issues they had with durability, delivery and installation.

Hammonds wardrobes review

To discover which brands are the best investment, we asked Which? members to rate their fitted wardrobes for build quality, value for money, and delivery and installation.

The top scoring brands in our survey achieved scores of over 75%, including five-star ratings for value for money. 

At the other end of the table, brands were given just three stars for quality ratings. 

Hammonds durability rating

As well as asking our readers to rate their wardrobe for durability, we also asked them to report whether it showed any sign of damage or wear and tear.

Across the brands, an average of 18% of consumers reported that they experienced problems with their doors, and 17% reported that their furniture required repairs.

Hammonds delivery service rating

We also asked our shoppers to tell us about their experience with their furniture delivery.

Most of our respondents waited less than two months for their furniture (80%), and 33% waited less than two weeks. 

67% reported having no issues with their delivery. Where there were problems, the most common were the delivery being rearranged several times by the brand (10%), some parts becoming unavailable after ordering (9%), and some parts being missing at delivery (8%). 

Hammonds installation service rating

The quality of installation is almost as important as the furniture itself. We asked our consumers to tell us about their experience with their brand's installation service.

Fortunately, only 33% of consumers had issues with their installation, the most common problems being delays (12%), the furniture not fitting properly (10%), and extra work being required, leading to extra costs (8%).

Hammonds built-in wardrobes

Hammonds has both fitted and sliding wardrobe ranges, which are grouped into classic, contemporary and easy-living categories.

It also has an extensive range of additional bedroom furniture and storage options, such as dressing tables, built-in desks and bench seats with drawers (freestanding or fitted). You can choose to include built-in lighting as part of your design.

Does Hammonds offer a fitted furniture design service?

Yes. To buy Hammonds fitted furniture, you'll need to book a free design appointment. You can do this either virtually via a video call or at your home. 

If you choose a virtual appointment, you'll need to book a time slot for an initial call, where Hammonds staff will discuss your room and options with you.

You'll then need to send Hammonds rough sketches and measurements for your room – you can ask for help with this if needed. You'll then have the video call where the designer will show you their 3D design of your room and ideas.

If you opt for an at-home appointment, the designer will measure up and discuss options and styles with you. They will then draw up a 3D design to help you visualise your choice.

Can you install your own Hammonds fitted furniture?

No. Hammonds furniture is made to measure and installed by Hammonds.

Hammonds guarantees

Hammonds offers a 10-year guarantee on all of its wardrobes, which is similar to most of the other companies that we surveyed. 

It also has a 30-day guarantee on its workmanship. This is not the most generous policy we found – for example, Sharps offers a 15-year product and workmanship – but it is better than some others.
