Best and worst bathroom brands

From Easy Bathrooms to Wickes, find out how leading bathroom brands fared in Which?'s rigorous assessments
Modern bathroom with a stone accent wall, floating vanity, large bathtub, and green plants

To find the best bathroom brands, we surveyed 6,833 people who have had a new bathroom or bought bathroom products in the past five years.

From the data we collected, we’ve been able to produce scores and ratings for brands in two key areas:

  1. Best bathroom retailers – how customers rated retailers for their product range, quality of advice, delivery and dealing with problems.
  2. Best bathroom product brands – how customers rated products from leading manufacturers for their quality, durability and value for money.

A quarter of respondents to our survey said they used an independent bathroom retailer. So as well as rating the biggest bathroom retailers, we’ve also collated scores for independent retailers as a group.

Read on to see how brands such as B&Q, Homebase, Wickes, Ikea, Victorian Plumbing and Duravit fared.

In order to rate a bathroom product brand overall, respondents needed to have bought at least two products from the same brand (including baths, shower enclosures, cabinets, taps, toilets and sinks).

In addition to rating brands' bathroom products overall, we've also produced quality and durability ratings for specific products, such as baths, taps and toilets.

We've tested electric showers from Mira, Triton and more, to find the best shower units that won't freeze you with sudden dips in temperature or burn you with high energy bills.

We measure yearly running costs of every electric shower we test, and we look for those that are easy to install and use, consistent in terms of temperature and that are able to produce a generous jet of piping-hot water.

Which brand offers the best bathroom guarantees?

If you have an issue with your bathroom within the first year, you will usually be able to get the issue fixed or the faulty item replaced under warranty or guarantee.

However, some brands provide even better warranty support.

  • Easy Bathrooms has a 25-year guarantee for ceramic products, shower trays, basins and baths, a 10-year guarantee for furniture, taps, showers, enclosures, wetroom items, bath screens, radiators and heated towel rails, and a one-year guarantee for lighting. Read our Easy Bathrooms review.
  • Ikea offers a 10-year guarantee covering defects in the material and workmanship on all wash-basins, mixer taps and shower mixers, plus some bathroom furniture, counter tops and mirrors. It also has a three-year guarantee on all shower accessories. Read our Ikea bathrooms review.
  • B&Q provides a 10-year guarantee for all B&Q and Cooke & Lewis (owned by B&Q's parent company, Kingfisher plc,) baths, sinks, ceramic toilet pans and cistern, shower trays, cabinets, cabinet hanging brackets, hinges, cabinet panels, adjustable legs, door and drawer fronts, shower mixer controls and taps. Read our B&Q bathrooms review.
  • Wickes has a 30-year guarantee for shower and bath screens, a 25-year guarantee for pottery and baths and a 10-year guarantee for taps. Read our Wickes bathrooms review.
  • Victorian Plumbing offers a wide variety of guarantees from one year to lifetime, depending on the product bought and the manufacturer. Read our Victorian Plumbing bathrooms review.

If you can't get your faulty bathroom product resolved through a guarantee, you can fall back on your protection under the Consumer Rights Act. This entitles you to products and services that are:

  • of satisfactory quality
  • fit for their purpose
  • as described
  • and fitted with reasonable care.

If you have a problem with a bathroom that isn't down to simple wear and tear, contact the provider as soon as you notice the issue. Follow up any verbal complaints with a letter or email.

Having everything in writing, including photos of the problem, if applicable, will make things easier if the company is unhelpful or the problem continues.

Ideally, get written confirmation from the company of any agreements to fix it, along with a date.

Bathroom maintenance tips

Keeping your bathroom clean and in good working order can be a chore, but putting off some small and regular maintenance jobs could end up leading to bigger problems down the line.

Whether it's getting into good regular habits that will help stop mould from taking root, or addressing the first signs of a leaky sink early on, there are plenty of things that you can do to maintain the upkeep of your bathroom.

  • Prevent mould forming in your bathroom – the key to this is keeping your bathroom ventilated, wiping down the shower after use (with a towel, squeegee or window vac) and washing towels and mats regularly. Find out more in our guide on how to stop condensation
  • Fix leaks in your bathroom – these waste water and can cause damage to your floor, or the ceiling of the room below. Check all your pipes and under your sink for leaks. Act promptly if your toilet starts leaking, too. Thames Water estimates that a trickling leak within your toilet could waste up to 200 litres of water a day. Major leaks, known as rippling or flowing, could waste up to 600 and 8,000 litres a day, respectively.
  • Clean tiles and grouting – grout that isn't properly cleaned and maintained can become stained, mouldy and liable to crack. Once it's cracked, water can seep into the wall, causing damage.
  • Keep the floor dry – avoid carpet in the bathroom as it can trap moisture and create a breeding ground for mould. Instead, use a bath mat, mop up any excess water from the floor and consider placing a dehumidifier in the hall or room that connects to your bathroom so that any moisture from a steamy shower doesn't spread – check our reviews of the best dehumidifiers.
  • Have an extractor fan – this is essential for removing moisture from the air to prevent mould, particularly if your bathroom has no windows. For full details, read our advice guide on how to buy the best bathroom extractor fan

How Which? rates bathroom brands

In June 2023, we asked 6,833 members of the Which? Connect panel and members of the public about bathroom products that they had bought in the past five years. We used the answers to produce scores for both bathroom retailers and major bathroom product brands. We conduct this research every three years, and will be publishing new results in summer 2026.

We asked respondents to rate the retailers they bought their bathroom products from, including their experience of the buying process (such as their range of products, quality of advice from staff, ease of delivery and value for money).

Where respondents had bought at least two bathroom products from the same brand (including baths, shower enclosures, cabinets, taps, toilets and sinks), we asked them to rate their experience of that brand’s products. This included aspects such as quality and durability, as well as value for money.

We have produced Which? customer scores for both the bathroom retailers and the product brands. You'll see that some brands have a customer score within both of the above tables – that's because it's both a retailer and produces own-label products, such as Ikea.

The Which? customer scores are based on how satisfied customers are with their experience with the bathroom retailer or bathroom product brand overall, and how likely they are to recommend it.

Our star ratings are generated by asking customers to rate the providers for each element on a seven-point scale from 'very poor' to 'excellent'. We can only give ratings where we have 30 or more responses.
