An OPPS (Office for Product Safety and Standards) safety notice identifies 17 freestanding gas cookers with the fault, from brand names Hotpoint and Indesit.

The cookers' glass lids carry the potential risk of a gas leak from the lid shut-off valve, caused by repeated use.

Which models are affected by the safety alert?

The alert refers to the following models. You can find your cooker’s model number on a metal plate on the side wall of the cooker cavity.

  • Hotpoint HDM67G0CCX/UK
  • Hotpoint HDM67G0CCB/UK
  • Hotpoint HDM67G9C2CB/UK
  • Hotpoint CD67G0CCX/UK
  • Hotpoint HDM67G0C2CX/U
  • Hotpoint HDM67G0CCW/UK
  • Hotpoint HDM67G9C2CX/U

  • Hotpoint HDM67G0C2CB/UK
  • Hotpoint CD67G0C2CA/UK

  • Indesit ID67G0MCX/UK
  • Indesit ID67G0MCB/UK

The cookers are a fire risk as it is possible for the O-rings (the rubber seal for the gas shut-off valve) to wear prematurely, causing a gas leak from the lid shut-off valve. If gas leaks and is ignited, this may cause a fire, burns and injuries.

If you own one of these models, you should follow the advice of the notice.

What to do if you own an affected gas cooker

Hotpoint/Indesit say that only cookers produced between 25 October and 22 November 2024 are affected. To check if your model is included, enter the model number and serial number into the model checker on the Hotpoint/Indesit website.

If you own one of the affected cookers, you should stop using it immediately and contact Hotpoint/Indesit. An engineer will then visit to replace the affected component.

Owners of affected models can find additional information on the Hotpoint/Indesit website or call 0800 316 3887 for further guidance.

If you smell gas, you should contact the National Gas emergency helpline on 0800 111 999 in England, Wales and Scotland, and 0800 002 001 in Northern Ireland.
