Best Christmas gifts for wine lovers 2025: wine glasses, bottles and more

Thinking about gifting wine at your Christmas do? We've consulted our experts and our own taste tests to find the best wine gifts and bottles

Bottles of wine, a glass, and a fridge

Gifting bottles of wine isn't just for housewarming or dinner parties. Whether your wine-loving friend prefers red, white or anything in between, we've got great gift ideas – including which bottles to give them this Christmas.

As part of our taste tests, we ask up to 20 experts to blind taste and rate wines - you'll find some of their suggestions below. While we can't outright tell you how good a bottle is (you'll need to read our reviews for that), we'd never recommend a bad gift.

From bubbles and bottles of red to decanters and notebooks, these are the best gifts for wine lovers.

Savisto Wine Aerator

Savisto Wine Aerator

My sister has one of these wine aerators and when my dad spotted it, he was very taken with what a simple gadget it was! I remember thinking at the time, 'right, that's his gift sorted!'

Hannah FoxWhich? principal writer and researcher

We like: Speeds up wine aeration

Watch out for: Don't forget to pop in the mesh filter

Aerating wine can bring out more flavours or help it taste better, but it's not a quick process. Luckily, this little gadget speeds up the process. There's also a filter built in to prevent bits of cork or sediment from getting into the glass.

They'll just need to hold it above the glass and pour the wine into the aerator. Air will get drawn in as it's poured, aerating the wine.

Keep an eye on stock below:

BarCraft Wine Decanter

Barcraft glass wine decanter
  • Capacity: 1.5L
  • Glass decanter
  • Weight (empty): 0.5kg

We like: Cheaper than most options

Watch out for: Hand-wash only

While you could pay significantly more for a fancy decanter, this Amazon bestseller will cost under £15. It's not the fanciest design, but it gets the job done without breaking the bank.

Wine decanters claim to 'open up' a wine's flavour or aromas – similar to (but not quite the same as) the aerator above. If it's an older wine that's been stored for a while, it's good to decant it to expose it to oxygen.

Otherwise, if you'd prefer other styles, check out wine decanters from retailers like Amazon, Ikea and John Lewis. If you want to blow the budget, consider one from LSA International, Riedel, or Selfridges.

Aikaro Electric Wine Opening set

Aikaro Wine opening set on a blue background

I'm a sucker for a gadget – but it has to be actually useful. Last year I was given the Aikaro wine opening set that included an electric corkscrew and, if you don't finish it all, a pump that lets you reseal the bottle and keep it for about two weeks without it going bad.

Matthew JenkinWhich? senior writer

We like: No struggling with corks

Watch out for: Batteries not included

Sometimes it's comically difficult to get corks out of stubborn bottles of wine. Luckily, the wine buffs in your life can save you the faff with this electric opener.

This set comes as a battery-operated opener, but you can get a rechargeable option for around £4 more. A foil cutter, a pump to reseal your wine, and a pourer are also included.

Moleskine Passions Wine Journal

Passions wine journal

One of my favourite things is trying new bottles to find another favourite. This wine diary means I can make a note of who gave me the bottle, where it's from and what I thought of the taste.

Faith StricklandWhich? senior editor

We like: Dedicated sections for six types of wine

Watch out for: Some colours may be more expensive

With this notebook, there are spaces on each page to jot down tasting notes, what type of glass to use, what grapes are used, and more. There are even stickers included that can help them organise their notes further.

If they're an aspiring sommelier, this is a great gift to help them build their knowledge of wines.

Best Christmas gifts for wine lovers under £50

The Wine Society membership

Wine society membership pack
  • £20 off the first order with a membership
  • Hundreds of in-person and online events for members
  • Free UK delivery on orders

We like: Lifetime membership with a one-off payment

We don't like: Can't order wine from them without a membership

If they're looking to expand their wine collection with cheaper bottles, a Wine Society membership gives access to thousands of bottles – many of them costing under a tenner.

The Wine Society also offers a subscription service that delivers a case of 12 bottles of wine every two months. These cost extra though, between £95 and £169 per case.

It's a gift that lasts a lifetime – many of the wine-loving Which? members we surveyed have been buying wine from them for decades.

See how it compares to other memberships in our survey on the best wine clubs. You can get memberships from The Wine Society (£40).

LSA Borough wine glasses

When we run our wine taste tests, our experts have shared insights about the importance of a decent wine glass, and the difference it can make to the taste and your drinking experience. So it’s worth investing in a good set to get the best from your wine.

Jessica CarsonWhich? editor

We like: The wide bowl can help unlock deeper aromas

Watch out for: This design might not be for everyone

We're not total wine snobs over here, but drinking wine out of a mug doesn't exactly scream 'aficionado'. If they're lacking 'proper' wine glasses, we thought these were a great pick.

You could splash out on fancy wine-specific glassware, but these ones from LSA International are good for a wide variety of wines. These are also dishwasher-safe, which isn't always common with wine glasses.

You can pick up a set of four directly from LSA International (£50) or below:

These aren't the only styles available, either. If you'd prefer something else, you can view LSA International's full range of wine glasses online. Otherwise, if you think they'd prefer wine-specific glasses – Riedel makes a wide variety.

Wine or champagne chiller

Wine and champagne chillers

Nothing quite beats a glass of chilled wine on hot day. Instead of having to run to the refrigerator for another pour, pick up a wine chiller or champagne bucket to bring outside, or in the living room. You can even find some chillers with freezable inserts too, which means you won't need to keep getting ice to fill a bucket.

Lars StannardWhich? writer

We like: Some don't even need ice

Watch out for: Huge variety in prices

Many rosé, white, and sparkling wines are best served chilled. Getting your present recipient a wine chiller or champagne bucket means the wine can stay cold without them needing to walk over to their fridge for another pour.

There are plenty of options to choose from – some can hold several bottles and ice, others just one, some are good on the go, and others are meant to stay on tables. With this much variety in models, it means there's a lot of variation in price, too.

A wine rack

Three wine racks

I've got a small one tucked away on a shelf, and it's a great way to organise the wines I keep at home. You can get whole shelves that hold dozens of bottles, or countertop ones to stick in the kitchen for easy access. Just make sure you get one that fits in with the rest of their decor.

Lars StannardWhich? writer

We like: Wide variety of styles to choose from

Watch out for: Large ones can cost hundreds of pounds

Looking for a present for someone struggling to store their growing collection of wine? Wine racks are an easy way to store several bottles without taking up too much space.

We'd recommend thinking about how much wine they want to store, where they would store it (on a table or counter, vs in a closet or cellar), and choosing a style from there.

Just be aware that some larger racks and certain styles might cost over £100.

You can get wine racks online from retailers like AmazonB&Q, IkeaJohn Lewis or The Range.

CDA Nancy Dark Skies wine cooler

CDA Nancy Dark Skies wine cooler

This wine fridge might not offer the most storage for bottles, but you won't need to know the measurements of your recipient's cabinets, countertops, or kitchen in order to gift it. It's also one of the most budget-friendly models we tested.

Patrick GallagherWhich? writer and researcher

We like: Compact, shelves can be rearranged

We don't like: Only stores 15 bottles

While it might not store the most wine, it was one of the most stylish coolers we tested.

This smart little chiller comes in 'dark skies', 'tea rose' or white colours and includes handy features such as a wireless charger on top of the fridge.

Best white wines to gift

Lidl Picpoul de Pinet

Lidl Picpoul de Pinet white wine
  • Country: France

  • Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians

Don't knock it until you try it. It might be from Lidl, but it's one of the cheapest white wines we tested, and is a popular choice for white wine lovers.

Best sparkling wines to gift

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Cava Brut

Sainsburys Cava Brut
  • Country: Spain
  • 11.5% ABV
  • Suitable for vegans

While the bottle might bear the mark of a British supermarket, the wine inside is anything but. It comes from a third-generation winery in Peralada, Spain.

Sainsbury's says the grapes used in this sparkling wine are grown 'at altitude' – meaning they're grown above sea level. This means the grapes grow at cooler temperatures which can affect the ripening process, which the brand says makes for a superior wine.

Could we really taste the difference? Find out in our guide on the best prosecco and sparkling wines. Pick up bottles from Sainsbury's (£8.75).

Asda Extra Special Crémant d'Alsace Brut

Asda extra special cremant d'alsace
  • Country: France
  • 12% ABV
  • Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians

It's French sparkling wine, but it's not quite champagne. Instead, this one comes from just to the east in Alsace.

While champagne production has stricter regulations and higher grape costs, crémant still uses similar techniques in the winemaking process. Bottles of these wines can be just as tasty and cost significantly less.

Find out how this bottle compared to others in our guide to the best prosecco and sparkling wines. Get bottles from Asda (£9.98).

Best champagnes to gift

Louvel Fontaine Champagne Brut

ASDA Louvel Fontaine Champagne
  • Country: France
  • 12% ABV
  • Suitable for vegans

If you're looking for some budget-friendly bubbly to gift this Christmas, look no further than Asda's own-brand brut.

You can get it for under £20, which makes it an attractive option compared to luxury brands such as Piper-Heidsieck, Veuve Clicquot or Taittinger, which often cost at least twice as much.

We pit this bottle – and more – against luxury bottle Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial. Is it better? You'll need to read our review on the best champagnes to find out.

Get bottles from Asda (£19.98).

Tesco Finest Premier Cru Brut Champagne

Tesco finest champagne
  • Country: France
  • 12.5% ABV
  • Suitable for vegans

Some wine snobs might turn up their noses at the thought of Tesco champagne, but we must reiterate: this is the real deal – from Champagne, France.

If you're gifting lots of bottles this Christmas, keep an eye out for offers. Sometimes you can get 25% off when you buy three or six bottles with a Clubcard.

Other wines to gift

Bonny Doon Le Cigare Orange Wine

Bonny Doon orange wine

This wine originates from Georgia, and has been extremely popular over the last year. Don't be fooled though, it isn't made with oranges. It's a skin-contact wine, meaning bottles tend to have more complex or unusual flavours than a regular bottle of wine. While it's not the easiest wine to get ahold of, it makes a great gift if you're after something a bit different.

Becky MarcusWhich? senior writer and researcher
  • Country: United States
  • 10.5% ABV
  • Suitable for vegans

While it appears orange, this wine is often still classified as a white, although it's claimed to have the complexity of a red.

Orange wines are very trendy at the moment, and it's an adventurous gift for connoisseurs.

We liked this bottle, and you can compare prices below. If you're looking for other options, we found that Ocado has the widest range.

Zeno Alcohol-Liberated Sparkling 'wine'

Zeno alcohol-liberated sparkling fizz

If they're looking to drink less, but still love a glass of wine with dinner or after work, try a couple of bottles of non-alcoholic wine. These alternatives have come a long way in recent years, and there are plenty of options to choose from.

Becky MarcusWhich? senior writer and researcher
  • Country: Spain
  • 0.3% ABV
  • Suitable for vegans

Has your wine lover been trying to cut back? There are several low-to-no-alcohol wines that aim to retain the flavour, aroma, body, and mouthfeel of a 'regular' wine.

While it wasn't the cheapest option we tested, this citrussy 'fizz' makes a great gift. Just note that it's not completely alcohol-free.

Read what we thought of it in our review of the best alcohol-free sparkling wines. You can get bottles from Waitrose (£12.50).
