This innovative service (launching Monday) combines personalised guidance and connects users to trusted, independent expert advice, information on ways to pay, and reliable Which? endorsed tradespeople.

As the UK works towards its 2050 net zero target, residential homes - currently responsible for 20 per cent of the country’s CO2 emissions - must undergo significant improvements to become more energy efficient. However, for many consumers, the path to sustainability is confusing and overwhelming, with uncertainties about where to start, who to trust, and how to budget for upgrades.

Which?’s new service addresses these concerns head-on, offering a simple and comprehensive solution. The easy-to-use free online tool provides households with a tailored, step-by-step plan to enhance their home’s energy efficiency, plus a programme of independent Which? expert advice, information on ways to pay, and access to Which? Trusted Traders, a network of verified professionals.

The service, powered in partnership with Snugg - an innovative tech startup - combines Snugg’s seamless user experience with Which?'s renowned independent advice. Users simply enter their postcode to receive tailored recommendations based on their property data, along with estimates of potential savings, available grants, and options for trusted local installers.

The Which? Home Energy Tool marks a major step forward in simplifying the journey to energy-efficient homes and making greener living accessible to all. An important part of the user experience will be sign-posting skilled professionals via the Which? Trusted Trader service who can help people get the work done to improve their home energy efficiency. For members of the Trusted Trader network, it is expected that the home energy planning service will provide a pipeline of interested homeowners looking for Which? endorsed expert tradespeople who can provide relevant services - such as solar energy, heating and insulation upgrades.

Traders can also use the service with their customers to help educate them in the options available to them. Which? is encouraging skilled professionals operating in the home energy space to ask about how to join the Trusted Traders scheme and benefit from this new service, in addition to enjoying the many other benefits of being a Which? endorsed trader.

Emily Seymour, Which? Energy Editor, said:

"We recognise that navigating the world of home energy efficiency can be daunting.

“This service is a game-changer, offering a free, reliable, and personalised tool that empowers people to make informed decisions, reduce their energy bills and contribute to a greener future.”

Robin Peters, CEO at Snugg said:

“Getting the UK to Net Zero is a huge challenge. But as 20 per cent of carbon emissions come from our homes, we're faced with an equally huge opportunity.

"We’re excited to partner with Which? to enhance their home energy offering and address this opportunity.

"With just a few clicks, thousands of people will be able to identify and implement suitable home energy efficiency improvements that will have a lasting impact on their homes and the environment.”
