What type of hair removal should you choose?

Choosing the right hair removal method depends on your priorities.
Shaving is fast and straightforward, especially with one of the best electric shavers from our tests. They use a motor to move small blades across the skin, reducing the chance of cuts and razor burn in comparison to a manual shaver.
There are two types of electric shaver: foil and rotary shavers. Foil shavers have blades that move back and forth beneath a metal layer, lifting hair into the holes for a precise shave. Rotary shavers typically feature cutting heads that pivot and flex, trapping and cutting hair as it moves along the skin.
If you’re removing leg or underarm hair and don’t mind a bit of discomfort, one of the best epilators we've tested could be a better choice. You don't need to epilate nearly as often as you would use an electric shaver because they mechanically pull out multiple hairs at once, potentially giving you longer-lasting smoothness.
To remove hair more permanently, consider an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device. They emit broad-spectrum light that is absorbed by the pigment in hair follicles, converting it into heat. This method damages the hair and stops it from growing over time. They can be quite pricey though, and may take several weeks to have any effect.
Other options to consider for removing hair at home are waxing and hair removal creams. Waxing, like epilating, pulls out hair and will last much longer than shaving. Hair removal creams (or depilatory creams) are painless and dissolve hair using chemicals, but the results don't last as long and some people could experience skin irritation.
