A number of cities across Europe are giving tourists freebies and discounts for visiting by train this year — and the list is growing.
From cheaper lift passes and ski hire in Morzine in the French Alps, to Disneyland discounts and 15% off European food tours, you’ll benefit from travelling more sustainably.
Last year’s experiment, ‘CopenPay’, is expected to return this summer too, a city-wide project in Copenhagen which offered tourists and locals different rewards, like free coffees and sweet treats, reduced price admission to attractions, free boat cruises and more for ‘green actions’, such as taking public transport. CopenPay has announced that it will return ‘bigger and better’ in 2025. Sign up for updates on the CopenPay website.
Many popular city break destinations have since followed suit, including hotspots like Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Brussels and Dusseldorf.
Be aware that rules vary. While some cities reward you for taking the Eurostar, others will for travelling by Eurail, Interrail, local train service, or even by cycling in Copenhagen.
Read on to find out what’s up for grabs in each destination - we’ll add more as they’re announced.

Here’s every destination that will reward you for taking the train, and what’s up for grabs.
Holders of Eurail and Interrail passes are entitled to 15% off a ticket for Secret Food Tours, guided foodie tours in 34 European cities, including Krakow, Valencia, Stockholm, Berlin, Funchal and Seville — all top-rated spots in our latest survey of the best city breaks in Europe.
Tickets range from €79 (£66) to €129 (£108), meaning you could save around €12-€19 ( £10 to £16) off the cost of a ticket. Use the code INTERRAIL15 or EURAIL15 when paying.
Anyone with a Eurostar ticket can get 20% off a bus tour of Paris and 10% off the cost of a Paris City Pass. Just note which attractions are included and whether you’ll reap the benefit of a pass. Sometimes it’s cheaper to pay for individual attraction tickets, especially if you’re only keen to visit one or two, and happy to do so outside of peak hours.
A perhaps even more enticing offer is Eurail and Interrail’s 10% off Disneyland discount. Just choose Disneyland on the Benefits portal page, and share your Pass Cover Number (the number on the front of your Eurail or Interrail pass) when booking your ticket to get the discount.

Skiers and snowboarders can get 10% discounts if they travel via train into the mountains. Apply for a discount pass by filling out a form on the AlpinExpress website - you’ll need to attach proof of train travel. This gets you 10% off lift passes and discounts on lessons, equipment hire, spa treatments and food.
Last year, Normandy offered tourists a discount of at least 10% on 70 attractions for travelling by train, coach or bike. Watch this space for 2025 offers.
Planning a bus tour or cycle ride through the city? Flash your Eurostar ticket to get money off. A 72 hour bus tour is usually €35 per person, meaning a couple could save €14 if booking together with the discount. A day’s bike rental, usually €17 per adult, becomes €13.60.
Show your Eurostar ticket to get a Liège Visit Pass for €14 (about £11.75) instead of €18 (about £15). The pass gets you entry to 13 museums located in Liège and the surrounding area, which usually cost around €5-€9, so if you plan to visit just two or three during your stay, it’s worth it.
Copenhagen’s city-wide green initiative, CopenPay, hasn’t announced its 2025 offers yet, but you can check out last year’s CopenPay free attractions, which included free ice creams and coffee, canal tours and bike rides, to get a taste of what’s to come this year.
You can get a free trip to the Finnish Railway Museum by showing an Interrail or Eurail pass at the ticket counter.
Visitors who travel to Dusseldorf via Eurostar get 15% off bike hire, plus a 48 hour Dusseldorf Card for €12.90, instead of €19.90, which gets you unlimited public transport within the city and free admission to attractions like the Aquazoo aquarium and Film-museum.
You can save 20% on the cost of tours of some of Rome’s most famous landmarks, such as a walking tour of the Colosseum, or a Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica skip-the-line tour, by quoting EURAIL when checking out on the Tours by Carrani website.
Planning a Eurostar trip? Watch out for Eurostar flash sales, where you’ll get the cheapest Eurostar tickets on offer
Eurostar travellers are entitled to 10% off bike hire with Amsterdam Velo — just show your digital Eurostar pass.
Head to Rotterdam’s tourist office and show your digital Eurostar pass to get 25% off a Rotterdam city pass, which gives you free travel and discounted access to major attractions.
You can get discounted entrance to Casa Mila (otherwise known as La Pedrera), an apartment building designed by Gaudi. Just show your Interrail or Eurail pass at reception to get €3 off (approximately a 10% discount).
See Switzerland’s famous lakes with a BLS Lake Brienz and Lake Thun tour for free using your Interrail or Eurail pass. You’ll need to use one of your allocated ‘travel days’ to take advantage of this offer, but it’s a great opportunity to cruise through some of Switzerland’s iconic turquoise waters. The Eurail partner website has full instructions for booking your cruise, including the discount.
You can also get a 15% discount on hostel stays with Swiss Youth Hostels by quoting RAIL when booking.
You can get hundreds of discounted days out with a National Rail train ticket, including National Trust trips, tickets to West End shows, 2 for 1 trips to attractions like Kensington Palace, and a third off attractions like Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures, Cadbury World, Madame Tussauds, Edinburgh and York Dungeons and more.
New deals are released weekly — there are currently limited-time offers like 2 for 1trips to the Turner Prize Exhibition at Tate Britain, V&A South Kensington, and Swingers Mini Golf in the West End of London.
