1. A coffee machine for tasty espressos (77%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £36
Price compared to average category price: £476 cheaper

If you're shopping for an affordable compact coffee machine, our experts recommend this model. Compatible with Dolce Gusto pods, it can make more than 50 drinks – from coffee and tea to hot chocolate – and handles cold options as well.

The machine is a breeze to use, and both cleaning and descaling are straightforward, so maintaining it shouldn't be too much of a chore.

2. A fridge with exceptional cooling (81%, Best Buy, Eco Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £89
Price compared to average category price: £569 cheaper

This is a small, freestanding white fridge with space for about two shopping bags’ worth of food. It has one shelf and a door rack, plus the door can open at a 90-degree angle so it's easier to position in tighter spaces.

During testing, it was exceptional at cooling food quickly, which is important to avoid your food going bad faster than it should. This fridge is also fantastic at keeping close to the same interior temperature, even in a hot room.

3. Long-lasting headphones (75%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £30
Price compared to average category price: £126 cheaper

These budget-priced wireless headphones have physical controls that let you play and pause music on your phone, answer calls and activate your phone's voice assistant.

They lasted 85 hours 50 minutes on a full charge in our testing, which means these headphones sit among those with the longest-lasting battery life.

4. A brilliant, affordable freezer (77%, Best Buy, Great Value, Eco Buy)

Typical price: £169
Price compared to average category price: £490 cheaper

Unlike the majority of freezers, this one can be stored in a garage or outbuilding. It can even be converted into a fridge if you need extra chilled storage, plus it's highly energy efficient for its size and type.

In our tests, it froze food impressively quickly, helping to preserve its quality by reducing the formation of large ice crystals. It reached and maintained a suitably low temperature using the manufacturer's recommended settings.

5. A feature-packed smartwatch (80%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £79
Price compared to average category price: £220 cheaper

This is a low-priced smartwatch with a strong range of features, including built-in GPS and water resistance to 5ATM (50 metres).

The tracking is very good. It measures your pulse rate through the heart-rate monitor within an impressively accurate 3%, and is even better during medium-intensity exercise. The SPO2 measurements are accurate, too. Steps are precisely tracked, whether you're walking, running or going about your everyday activities.

6. A microwave that heats food evenly (79%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £59
Price compared to average category price: £150 cheaper.

Measuring just 45cm wide and 34cm deep, this is one of the smallest microwaves we’ve tested, so it could be a good option if you’re short on space.

While it’s not the speediest, taking about six-and-a-half minutes to warm up a meal in our tests, it does heat food very evenly, without any rogue burnt or pale spots. It’s good at keeping cooked food moist, too.

7. A kettle that is quick to boil (78%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £15
Price compared to average category price: £36 cheaper

This is a budget-friendly, 1.7-litre kettle with a black ridged finish and chrome accents. Unlike most kettles that we've tested in our lab, it has two water windows, one on each side of the handle, making it easy to fill to your desired level.

During testing, it took just 2 minutes 48 seconds to boil a litre of water in our tests. If you're only making one mug (292ml), it will be ready to pour in just over a minute. The kettle is also easy to use.

8. A nimble, lightweight pushchair (78%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £150
Price compared to average category price: £353 cheaper

This lightweight pushchair is suitable from birth. While it can't take a carrycot or car seat, its world-facing seat reclines to more than 150 degrees, making it suitable for newborns through to children weighing up to 22kg (around five years old).

This pushchair did well in our tests to check how it copes when pushed over a range of surfaces, and how manoeuvrable it is. It’s nimble when pushing around obstacles and will handle both pavements and rough ground (such as lumpy grass) quite well.

9. A mattress with good spinal support (75%, Best Buy)

Typical price: £240
Price compared to average category price: £536 cheaper.

This double mattress is delivered vacuum-packed in a box straight to your door. It weighs just 17kg, so you shouldn't have much trouble getting it to your bedroom. It has a 17cm foam core topped with a 2.4cm layer of memory foam.

Spinal support is good whatever position you like to sleep in, but it's especially impressive for back sleepers. The support didn't change even after our tough durability tests, which simulate around a decade of use. That means it's unlikely to sag, soften or become less supportive over time. If you like how it feels when it's new, you should still feel the same way years later.

10. A Bluetooth speaker that performs well at high volume (75%, Best Buy, Great Value)

Typical price: £85
Price compared to average category price: £115 cheaper.

This large 2.1-channel wireless speaker has an integrated subwoofer.

The sound quality is good, and certainly better than we'd expect from a wireless speaker at this price. Even at high volumes, where some budget speakers begin to struggle, there's very little distortion.
