One of Amazon's newest Fire TV Sticks is limited to HD streaming, but unlike older models it also has TV controls on the remote, which allow you to change the volume and turn the power on and off on your TV.

You can search for TV programmes and films with your voice by holding down the microphone button. It is also compatible with other Alexa-powered devices if you want to set up a smart home.

Dubbed as 'Amazon's most affordable streaming stick', the remote control on the 'Lite' is also light on features – doesn't allow you to turn the TV on or off, or to control the volume.

You will be able to search through your apps and play TV shows by using your voice with Alexa and the microphone button, though. Shows are streamed in HD - and if you subscribe to music services, you can link them to the stick and play music through your television.

Pick up the Fire TV Stick Lite from John Lewis for £21.99.

Amazon's 4k Fire Stick aims to bring top quality streaming experiences to your home by connecting to wi-fi 6 and streaming in 4k Ultra HD.

It also has voice search and TV controls, meaning you can do everything on one remote. If you want to game, this is the only streaming media player with the Xbox app, which means you can stream games using Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and cloud gaming.

Should I buy an Amazon Fire TV Stick over Black Friday?

Paul Lester, Which? technology editor, says:

'You might not think you need a Fire Stick if you have a smart TV, but not all smart TV interfaces are made equal, and the slick and intuitive control and superb range of apps on Amazon’s streamer makes it tough to beat. Alexa-powered voice control is a really helpful feature to look out for – allowing you to easily search for movies and TV shows, control playback, and even smart home devices with a spoken command. Just make sure you snap it up when it’s on offer – Fire Sticks get regular and significant discounts year-round in the Amazon sales.'

Should you buy a 4K streamer if you don't have a 4K TV?

Really it boils down to when you plan to upgrade your telly. If you plan to do it soon, and by soon we'd say in the next two years, then spend the extra on a 4K streamer. When you do get your new TV you want to be able to make the most of it and a 4K streamer is a great way to access the highest resolution content.

If you're going to be waiting a little longer before making the leap from Full HD to 4K then maybe hold off on a 4K streamer. Reason being that by the time you upgrade there will be probably be a new version of the Amazon Fire TV Stick with 4K, Google Chromecast Ultra or Apple TV 4K to choose from.
